Do you have Georgia on your mind? Just so you know, there’s about to be a lot of really terrible (great) puns about Georgia. You’ve been warned.
The State of Georgia is about to pass a bill called the “Georgia Music Investment Act” in an attempt to get musicians and composers to take the midnight train to Georgia, and create the “Hollywood of the South”
Basically, it’s a bill that would offer 20% tax credits for musical or theater tours that rehearse or audition in Georgia, recording music that is released to the public, or film, TV and video game music that is made in state lines. Of course, there’s a minimum amount of money you have to be spending in order to get the tax credit, but such a bill may stimulate the music scene in Georgia.
While some people are crying, “Why Georgia Why,” it actually makes a lot of sense. Atlanta is already well known for producing artists such as T.I., Gucci Mane, Ludacris, The Black Crowes, Gnarls Barkley, and Kris Kross. This bill will hypothetically attract even more musicians to Sweet Georgia (brown).
It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out in the next few years. Will it soon be LA, New York, Nashville… Atlanta? Only time will tell.
As it turns, out he wasn’t looking for a soul to steal, the Devil went down to Georgia for the sick tax credits.
